Knowledge in Action Program

College of Communication students have many avenues for applying what’s learned in the classroom. Through our Knowledge in Action program—and the broad range of internships and experiential education and leadership opportunities it provides—knowledge and insights gained from coursework are put into action. These opportunities build the experience and confidence needed for success after graduation.

As a College of Communication student you can:

• Write for and become an editor with our student-run news vehicles: The Collegian and Collegian online.
• Enhance your media production skills as a member of BlueRoll Media.
• Work with the Speaker’s Lab in its ongoing partnerships with St. Vincent New Hope (communication and conversation skills training) and Girls, Inc. (speech coaching for participants and staff).
• Join RISE Innovations, a student-run communications firm operating as part of our college’s Public Relations Student Society of America chapter (Butler PRSSA).
• Test your oratory talents by participating on our award-wining Speech and Debate Team.
• Gain clinical experience by serving in the Butler Speech-Language Clinic and our community screening program.
• Research, prepare, and implement a communications campaign in our Public Communication Campaigns and Strategic Communication practicum courses.
• Be an enterprising young journalist by covering and reporting on the suburb of Carmel in our Newswriting and Reporting course; further challenge your abilities by covering city and state government as a Public Affairs reporting student.
